Turning Empty Houses into Homes
West Coast Furniture Bank is a registered Scottish charity supporting individuals and families who are unable to afford essential household items. Established in Ayrshire in 2007, our mission is simple - to provide the furniture and basic items people need to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
What We Do
We collect quality, reusable furniture and household items that would otherwise be discarded, store them, and redistribute them free of charge to people in need. From beds and sofas to white goods and everyday essentials, we help transform empty properties into functional homes.
Who We Support
We work with over 40 partner agencies who refer individuals and families to us. These include local authorities, the NHS, Women’s Aid, the DWP, housing associations, and other charities.
The people we support come from a wide range of backgrounds. Many are moving on from homelessness and into new accommodation but have little or nothing to furnish it. Others are facing financial hardship or recovering from difficult or unexpected circumstances.
What We Provide
We focus on essential, practical items that make everyday living possible:
- Lounge: sofas, armchairs, coffee tables, bookcases
- Bedroom: beds, mattresses, wardrobes, drawers, clean bedding
- Kitchen: fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers
- General: curtains, crockery, pots and pans, towels, rugs
Where We Work
Our work is primarily based across Ayrshire, where most of our partners and referrals are located. We also collect furniture from surrounding areas, including Glasgow, helping us maximise the amount of furniture we can reuse and redistribute.
How We Operate
We operate from a large unit in Ardrossan, generously provided to us free of charge. From here, we store, organise, and prepare furniture for delivery.
All items are provided free of charge within our core service area, with optional fuel donations requested for deliveries outwith North Ayrshire.
